Abstract:Strategy towards successful implementation of the ELI Beamlines project in the Czech Republic through a synergic R&D programme HiLASE (www.hilase.cz) will be presented. The main goal of HiLASE (High average power pulsed LASErs) is to create a national platform for development of advanced, high-energy & high-repetition rate diode pumped solid state laser (DPSSL) systems. Two key concepts for DPSSL are being explored within HiLASE: thin-disk laser amplifiers to reach kW average output power and multislab cryogenically cooled laser amplifiers to reach 100 J @ 10 Hz output scalable to kJ regime. Laser systems with these technical parameters are not yet commercially available and thus will find use in high-tech industry, in research laboratories, and especially in large scale laser facilities such as ELI Beamlines which is the high-energy, repetition-rate laser pillar of the ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) pan-european project. ELI Beamlines will be an international laser facility for basic and applied research providing user capability since the beginning of 2016. The overall conception and layout of the designed ELI Beamlines facility, review of planned scientific programme and links with the HiLASE project will be outlined.
