Abstract: This talk reviews recent works a ANL on application of lasers and laser techniques in accelerator related research, including beam characterization, laser-beam interaction, and beam generation. Topics include nonlinearity in electro-optical sampling for beam characterization, betatron oscillation of beams in laser plasma accelerators, 3D laser pulse shaping for laser driven rf guns, and others. 3D laser pulse shaping has the potential to significantly enhance the performance and at the same time reduce the cost of future x-ray free-electron lasers.
