| Acceleration of ions using femtosecond intense laser pulses in gaseous plasma targets has certain advantages over solid targets. Recent experiments using CO2 lasers and Ti:Sapphire laser in near critical density plasma are presented. Acceleration mechanisms and propects for improved acceleration performance will be discussed. |
